University Presidents Salaries In USA

So i came across this article in a leading indian english news daily which reported that Denmark has made it lot easier to get work permits. Reason: Over 30 per cent of the country’s work force would retire in the next few years and the country does not have enough qualified manpower to fill the vacancies. Denmark is in desperate need of 32,000 professionals in over a hundred categories, from software experts to doctors, MBAs, civil engineers, architects, nurses and so on. One might have to pay higher taxes but the good thing, is any foreigner is paid same salary as a Danish citizen. Journalism might not be the luckiest profession but engineers and health professionals are being offered very attractive salaries.
Moving on, Have you ever wondered how much a university president makes annualy.well, i had no clue about it until i came across Chronicle of Higher Education's annual survey of executive compensation, which was released on nov 17, 2008. Number one on the list of public university presidents was E. Gordon Gee, president of Ohio State University, who raked in a total compensation of $1.3 million!!
Some excerpts from the article are as follows:
1. There was a 7.6% rise in the median salaries of public university presidents but the salaries of private university presidents remained almost flat. Traditionally private university presidents are paid much higher than public university presidents but that difference has come down to about only US$100,000 or so(only??).
2. Editor of Chronicle, in which the survey was published also emphasized that salary of a university president has no affect on tuition fee of the university, in fact newsmagazine found some college presidents gave their bonuses back in wake of economic woes. (Really...!!).
3. The difference in the compensation of faculty remains high between public and private universities though, as private universities pay much more to their faculty.
4. Some data about the total compensations(including bonuses and other compensations):
PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES(college Presidents and chancellors only):-)
(i) University of Illinois system:US$555,000
(ii)University of Missouri System:US$531,920
(iii)University Of Missouri-Columbia:US$355,080
(iv)University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign:US$427,500

PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES(college Presidents and chancellors only):-)
(i)Washington University:US$738,242
(ii)Lindenwood University:US$272,455
(iii)Marryville University:US$224,700

5.Finally here is something which might make your jaw drop: In 2006-07, the top paid private university president was David Sargent, president of Suffolk University in Boston, whose compensation package totaled $2.8 million. Also high up on that list were Henry Bienen, president of Northwestern University, with $1.74 million, and Lee Bollinger, president of Columbia University, with $1.4 million.
