Germany is facing a shortage of almost 100,000 engineers which economists say is costing the resurgent German economy billions of euros, the weekly Der Spiegel news magazine cited a study released Monday by the Cologne-based Institute for German Economy (IW). According to this article the number of job vacancies in the engineering sector has increased from 70,000 in 2007 to around 95,000 in 2008. In fact Recently, one of my friends who is a Chemical Engineer got a job in Germany. And its not only chemical engineers,Starting last November, German companies have been allowed to employ electrical, computer and mechanical engineers from mainly Eastern Europe in a bid to ease an acute labor shortage. This might not sound a very good news to some people specially asian people but the shortage of engineers is bound to make them hire people from all around the world including asian countries and engineers from US which are from some other country as was the case with my chemical engineer friend. Here is a little overview of salaries in Germany: An electrical engineer with 1-4 years of experience can get an average salary of €49,000 per annum By the way as on April 24 , 2008 1 US Dollar = 0.62693 Euro( €) Type of Engineering: Software Engineering City Salary/year Munich €42,977 Frankfurt €50,000 Berlin €39,663 Hamburg € 47,000
Type Of Engineering: Mechanical Engineer City Salary/year Munich €56,482 Stuttgart €32,000
Sounds interesting. I might look up some job opportunities in German, as a "Konstrukteur Ingenieur". No matter where, but what i've understood the salaries are much less in eastern part of Germany, also living costs are much lower in east.
The most engineering work is still done in western germany, I think. So now I am looking more and more job opportunities from the "wessie" side.
