Mechanical Engineer

This is my favorite branch of engineering, even though i am myself not a mechanical engineer. A mechanical engineer designs, develops and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment and machinery. Using knowledge of engineering principles he/she designs products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines etc. Fabrication, operation, installation and or repair of mechanical product are part of the job.A bachelor's degree in engineering and 0-3 years of experience in the field or in a related area is required to get a decent job. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines as well as concepts developed in the mechanical engineering to perform the functions of the job . Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment (depends on the experience and position held in th company). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Average salaries in some major US cities are as follows:
New York, NY $67k
Los Angeles, CA $65k
Chicago, IL $62k
Washington DC $63k
There is a definite upward trend in the salaries of mechanical engineers as compared to other branches
Note that the above given salaries are just an average for the given cities, actual pay may vary due to reasons such as
Responsibilities involved
Type and size of industry
Other benefits and allowances
