An Architectural Manager or simply an architect manager, manages and supervises all related activities of a staff of architects and technicians. Directly manages the development of architectural designs and preliminary construction details. Ensures that architectural design work is completed on time and adhere to the established specifications and standards. He or she may also have an added responsibility of preparing project schedules, bids or proposals. The necessarry qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and 8 or more years of experience in the field of architecture. Also requires an architect's license. Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a head of a unit or a department.
Licensure: As mentioned above Licensure is essential for an architect manager, in fact it is essential for any architectecture school graduate to take a license before one can start taking contracts for providing architectural services. Licensing requirements include a professional degree in architecture, a period of practical training or internship under a licensed architect working in field and clearing nine divisions of qualification exam. i.e. obtain passing marks in all the nine divisions of exam. The time allowed to clear these exams vary by state.
